Greetings to everyone:
To those of you who plan to attend our June 22, Picnic and Fort Site Tour I
have been busy checking accommodations for the out of town people and have
come to the conclusion that Paris & Bourbon County offers many convenient and
interesting places to stay and visit. Paris, besides putting you in the very
heart of the beautiful Bluegrass Horse Country, offers great lodging, good
dining, many places to sightsee while you are there.
Points of Interest:
Duncan Tavern-323 High Street. A three story stone structure in continuos use
since 1788, as a tavern, boarding house and, now the home of the Kentucky
DAR, and the Second largest Genealogical Library in Kentucky.
Hopewell Museum, 8th & Pleasant Street. A 1910 Beaux post building on
Pleasant Street features interest displays of Bourbon County history a great
collection of photograph, illustrations and artifacts.
Claiborne Farm-Home of Secretariat on US 627 just south of town.
Runnymede Farm-on north US 27, home of champion thoroughbred horses since
1867. Site of Martin Station.
Cane Ridge Meeting House- a log Structure built in 1795, where in 1804 the
Christian Church was established. Inclosed in a stone structure the old
building is said to be the largest Log building in the United States. Located
on Rt 537 east of Town, this State Shrine is open to the public.
Colville Covered Bridge-This covered bridge over Hinkston Creek is still used
for vehicle traffic.
Houston Oaks Golf Course-this championship 18 hole course is conveniently
located just west of town on US 27 & 68. I include this for you ladies who
can't come unless there is a golf course nearby to entertain your husbands.
Cynthiana also has a fine 18 golf course located on Rt 32 east of Town across
from the Harrison Hospital.
Downtown Paris-when you stroll along the downtown streets you will discover
interesting Antique, Crafts and gift shops along with an array of
restaurants. For the serious shopper there is a Walmart on the bypass and a
Dollar General Store on South Us 27 & 68,
The Bourbon County Courthouse is beautiful. While touring the downtown area
take a look at this beautiful and ornate structure which is considered to be
the most beautiful Courthouse in the state.
Kentucky Horse Park-Located on Iron Works Pike, just off I-75, this Park
offers Camping, a large Museum on horses, and many exciting annual events.
The Horse Park is just 15 minutes from Paris via Ironworks Pike and US 27 &
68, two of Americas most scenic roads.
Lodgings:
Howard Johnson Inn, 2011 Alverson Drive, Paris, just off US 27 & 68 Bypass
across from Walmart. Rates starting are very reasonable. This is close to

Amelia's Field Country Inn. North of Paris across from entrance to Martin
Station. This most elegant of the B&Bs, fine dinning in a fantastic old home
in the midst of beautiful horse farm, across the road from Runnymede Farm.

Paris has many fine dinning places and fast food restaurants. For Information

Paris is 3 miles from Martin station and about 12 miles from Ruddell station.
Cynthiana-Harrison County
Cynthiana is located 3 miles from Ruddells and about 8 miles from Martins.
About a mile and half from the Harrison County 4-H grounds.
Lodgings:
Evergreen Motel- Rt #2, Box 429, Cynthiana, KY 41031. Located on US 25 about
a mile north of Cynthiana. This Motel under new ownership and is currently
being upgraded and remodeled. The rooms are clean and air-conditioned with
Cable TV & free HBO. The Motel was purchased a couple of years ago by Dinesh
Mistry who has done much to restore it after a number of years of
mismanagement. I visited the Motel on April1st and found it to be very clean.
If you are looking for cheaper rates with clean and quiet lodging this is the
place. Rates start $35.00 sgle, $40.00 double, $45.00 king size bed. The
motel is located on the Site of Higgins Blockhouse mentioned in Collins
History. Reservations: 606 234-5460
Seldon Renaker Inn, Victorian Bed & Breakfast, 24 South Walnut Street,
Cynthiana, Ky. Located in the old and stately Renaker House just one block
east of the Harrison County Courthouse. Built By Seldon Renaker, a wealthy
Merchant, in 1885, it has served as a Boarding House, Dress shop, Tea room
and Doctor's office, before being restored to it's original grandeur I 1987.
They have three units in the main House and four units with kitchens down the
street. Reservations: 606 234-3752. Recommended.
Dining;
Cynthiana has many fine Restaurants and well known fast food Establishments
such as Ponderosa, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonalds, etc.
Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum 13 S. Walnut Street, Cynthiana, across the
street from Seldon Renaker Inn. This is well worth as visit with great
displays of Artifacts, photos, other historic memorabilia. There is much to
see here. I highly recommend it. Hours 10 AM to 5 PM-Friday and Saturday.
