I would like to correspond with those researching STOOPS or LOWE surnames in Nicholas County. My GGgrandmother, Nancy W. Lowe, was born in Kentucky and married John Stoops. I have not been able to find the names of Nancy Lowe's parents or her birthday or birthplace. She died in 1850 in Cuba, Fulton Co., Illinois. Other members of the Stoops family landed in Nicholas County after emigrating from western Pennsylvania. I therefore suspect that John Stoops also went to this county, where he met Nancy Lowe. I'm not even sure about the spelling of her last name, as the marriage certificate shows her name as Nancy Lough. They were married in Fulton Co. Illinois. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Does anyone have information on Jacob and Henry Spaugh (Sphare)(Spahr). Jacob married Polly Johnson, daughter of Hugo or Hugh Johnson around 1807. The were in Nicholas County in 1810 and 1820. Henry shows up in 1810, 1820, and 1830. Their names seem to change at the same time so I assume they are related. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find correct parents for Isaac ALLISON b in either OH or IN by 1821 (census info varies) He was reported to be youngest child with the following brothers and sisters all born in KY and married in Nicholas Co.: Mary Mariah 1802 m Elijah SNAP, Elizabeth 1807 m Peter SNAP, Lucinda 1809 m John MANN Jr., James 1811 m Catherine MANN, David Gray 1812 m Sarah KITCART & Ann Alice McCARTY and finally Isaac 1821 m Sarah MARSHALL. Many researchers claim John (1 of 4 in Nicholas) BUT did family move north where father died and then return to Nicholas Co. Brother James moved west before war. Family lived north of Headquarters at Felicity and family cemetery was donated by Sarah Marshall Allison. Any information appreciated. Thanks.

Hi to Nicholas County Researchers I have been told that the BRENTON Family Cemetery is 3-4 miles north of Moorefield. Is this cemetery private or available to the public? My relatives are Henry BRENTON and his wife Mary ? who moved from Pennsylvania to Nicholas Co., in 1786. Their 7th son Robert BRENTON married Elizabeth STEEL (1763 CT). Elizabeth is believed to connect to William Bradford of the Mayflower. Any information or this early pioneer family welcome. Barbara Houck, Seal Beach, CA
