Descendants of Sally W. Wells

Evidence continues to mount that the husband of Aaron and Ruths daughter, Sally W. Wells, was William Evans, son of Caleb Evans and Elizabeth Wiggins. Last week Don Claypool sent me a copy of Caleb Evans' will which was written January 13, 1836 and probated August 27, 1836 in Pickaway Co., Ohio.? Here are the relevant sections:

---Fourthly, I give and devise unto my son William and his heirs, two sons, Aaron and Eleazor, the east third of the half section 25, T. 3, R. 15, in Licking County Ohio containing about 115 acres with the improvements, be the same, more or less and the said William's three daughters Elizabeth, Ruth and Rebecca, one hundred and fifty dollars to be divided equally between each, to be paid by my executors when they usually become of age.

---Tenthly, I give and devise unto my three granddaughters, children of my son William Viz. Elizabeth one half of the south east quarter of section no. 16 in T no. 3. R. 15 in Licking County Ohio, containing 80 acres, be the same more or less, with the improvements and the other half of said lot to be divided equally between the other two viz. Ruth and Rebecca.

As would be expected, there were children named Aaron and Ruth. This land turns out to be in Monroe Township, Licking Co., Ohio. It appears that when the courthouse burned in 1875, though the marriage records were destroyed, the deed records were saved. They have been microfilmed by the LDS Church and are at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. We hope to be able to research these records and see when the land was sold or deeded and, just as with Sally W. Wells Evans in the Nicholas Co., Kentucky 1845 deed, find out where the children went and who the girls married. Stay tuned for further exciting developments.

Descendants of Daniel Wells

Mariah Wells, daughter of Daniel Wells and Lucinda Collins, appears on page 45 of The Heritage of Aaron Wells and Ruth Wiggins with husband, John W. Durren and only one child, Aquilla Hildreth Durren. Subsequent information has shown that his name was John Hildreth Durrum (a variation of Durham) and the 1880 Census of Robertson County indicates that they had four daughters as well. Recently, a fellow researcher, Sue Mason, wrote me that she is a descendant of a second son, Parker Patrick Durrum (He was working outside the home in 1880.)

On July 26, 1886, in Cincinnati, Parker Patrick Durrum enlisted in Co. F, 11th Infantry of the U.S. Army. He served at Fort Yates, Dakota Territory for one year, and was then transferred to Plattsburg Barracks, Madison Barracks, and Fort Niagara, all in New York State, where he was discharged on July 25, 1891. He remained in the area where he met and married his wife, Sophronia Baker, just across the border in Vermont. He later received an Army Pension and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Here is an update of the family of Mariah Wells and John Hildreth Durrum. Those marked with "+" are known to have left descendants.??
